Cynthia's school letter

Cynthia Oliver, Dean of Education

Message from the Dean!

My hope for students as a Dean comes as a result of having developed a deep love and respect for education. Being a Dean provides an opportunity for continual learning. And as I share my own passion for learning with students, it is important for them to see someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I strive to be the type of Educator who stands by what she believes. I believe that Education and purpose is the wind beneath our wings that allow us the leverage to soar and land where we please.

In this season for change, the Mother and Daughter Bible College (MDBC) has a vested interest in wanting to give qualified inmates and disenfranchised individuals a chance at a college education.

Inspired by their past our students continue to realize their ambitions. It seems clear that we should invest in such programs for those who don't necessarily see themselves as college-bound. Because of this, it is important for us to meet our students where they are. By doing so, students discover that we are not there to condemn, but to help them find ways of redeeming themselves and recover from their mistakes.

On May 28, 2017, Warden Colon of the Florida Department of Corrections approved for the Mother and Daughter Bible College education initiatives. This decision was not taken lightly, the MDBC would now be able to focus squarely on its mission: changing the trajectory of the lives of its students. Most importantly, this transition in education promises to set a course for change for all those we serve. I take great pride in knowing that the MDBC Bible College is devoted to change.
